Replacement Level: Week 3

Week 3? Wait. What happened? Did I get blackout drunk? Or did I have an altercation with Ray Rice, Ray MacDonald, Greg Hardy or Jonathan Dwyer? God, that’s a depressing joke.

Yes, week 2 got missed out, as did the results of week 1. But I’m here to make that up to you. Sort of. I’m also not the person who did this before. This will be shorter, but not necessarily sweeter. Still, a challenge has been laid down. In week 1 Pete selected the following team:

QB Geno Smith – projected points 11.86 – actual points 12.64
RB Dexter McCluster, Jon Dwyer – 7.2 – 7.3
WR Andre Caldwell, Malcom Floyd, Miles Austin, David Nelson – 24.075 – 16.3
TE Marcedes Lewis, Anthony Fasano – 5.3 – 12.4
PK Ryan Succoup – 7.4 – 12.0
PN Mike Scifres – 0 – 6.9

DT Bennie Logan – 1.0 – 1.0
DE Derek Wolfe, Jason Hatcher – 7.5 – 6.0
LB Quinton Coples, Larry Foote, Melvin Ingram, Brooks Reed – 12 – 30.0
CB Carlos Rogers , Johnathon Joseph – 4.55 – 10.75
S Michael Griffin, DJ Swearinger – 8.5 – 35.45
Total Projected Points: 89.385 – Total Actual Points 150.740

A phenomenal effort that clearly won’t be beaten. And indeed, it wasn’t beaten by three teams. Teams that had actually been bought at auction. Teams that had been lovingly crafted, but curated from off-cuts. The shame should fall on the GMs of Here Comes The Brees, The 4th Dynmension: Dynasty of Sadness and DynaForOne Firebirds.

The challenge, of course, is to both beat the total and beat more teams, neither of which I think will be possible. Pete got amazingly lucky with over 65 points from just 6 players on defense and a further 12 from the second highest scoring kicker in the league that week. So, once again, I will not beat this total. Also, because many of these players have now been snapped up. Indeed, Malcolm Floyd was snapped up because he appeared on this team and actually played in week 1 for Champions of the Sun. Which means I’ll not be putting my hot tips into this team, instead I will be putting in blind bids for them…

Anyway, without further ado, here’s a line-up. Let’s see how it does this weekend:

QB Geno Smith – projected points 11.62
RB Bilal Powell – 4.5 – Roy Helu – 3.6 – Brandon Bolden – 1.8
WR Steve Smith Snr – 8.075 – Miles Austin – 5.2 – Ted Ginn Jnr – 4.25 – Devin Hester – 3.15
TE Larry Donnell – 5.7
PK Matt Bryant – 7.4
PN Steve Weatherford – 0

DT Vince Wilfork – 0.5
DE Robert Ayers – 6.0 – Manny Lawson – 1.5
LB Erik Walden – 6.0 – Dant’a Hightower – 1.5 – Philip Wheeler – 2.5 – Thomas Davis – 2.0
CB Johnathan Joseph – 4.5 – Kareem Jackson – 4.0
S Da’Norris Searcy – 3.5 – Dashon Goldson – 2.5
Total Projected Points: 89.795

I’ve managed to eek out a little more than Pete in the projected totals, plus I think I have a secret weapon. Devin Hester is due a kick return TD. I chose him and Ginn Jnr on the basis that they could be winning lottery tickets. Likewise (a little) Brandon Bolden. He’s very unlikely to do much, but who know what Bill will do. He rotates his running backs at random – I figured I’d hope I got lucky. Will I? We’ll see. The pickings were slim. I really, really hope this team doesn’t beat my own.
